BEST DRINKS THAT DON’T GIVE HANGOVERS

Hangovers – they stand toe-to-toe with texting your ex as one of the least favored drinking-related side effects.

Like texting your ex, you can make healthy decisions throughout the night to avoid getting to that point. As choosing to delete the number from your phone is a wise decision, you can also choose what the best alcohol is, along with what you are mixing it with. If you’re looking to feel as chipper the next day as the day you enjoyed some alcoholic beverages, here is our take on the best drinks that don’t give you hangovers:

AVOID HANGOVERS WITH VODKA (LIGHT)

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – vodka, especially vodka light (lower carbs, calories, and alcohol content) is superior to other liquors when it comes to healthier life choices. Vodka is one of the best drinks that don’t give you hangovers.

That is because it is made by fermenting grains or vegetables with yeast. Then it is filtered again and again to make it as pure as possible. With most vodkas having 40% alcohol content, and Switch vodka light measuring at 30%, it is the least likely to give you a hangover (when enjoyed responsibly, of course).

This can be attributed to its essentially no congeners. Alas, congeners…wait, what are those!?

Quickly put, they are byproducts that are created during fermentation which can be difficult for the body to process. That’s why we think the best drinks that don’t give hangovers are vodka drinks. It also helps if you keep sweets out of your mixed drinks.

WHAT TO MIX WITH VODKA

The purity of vodka comes at a price ( a relatively good one if you buy Switch). The trade-off is, well your drinks will taste better and you will have to practice a little self-control. Vodka of course can also be excellent when sipping straight. However, it has earned its place on the bartender’s arsenal, and should also be in yours after making a couple of the 5 drinks below.

BULLSHOT

This one’s very similar to a Bloody Mary, but this healthy cocktail doesn’t call for tomato juice. Instead, this health-conscious drink uses protein/vitamin-rich beef broth, which is also packed with collagen (perfect for anti-aging):

  • 2 oz. Switch Vodka Light Spirit Drink
  • 4 oz. beef broth
  • 2 dashes (1/5 teaspoon) Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes (1/5 teaspoon) tabasco sauce
  • .1/4 oz. lemon juice
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 pinch celery salt
  • 1 wedge lemon slice

Pour all of the ingredients into a shaker tin and add ice. Shake until all ingredients are combined and chilled. Strain the Bullshot drink into an old-fashioned glass filled with fresh ice.

VODKA SODA

This one is low-calorie and easy to drink:

  • 2 oz. Switch Vodka Light Spirit Drink
  • Soda water

Pretty straight forward, add-in the shot, ice, soda water, which has no sugar, and you’re on your way to having a headache-free morning.

MARTINI

Let’s pretend we’re on Mad Men and pour one of these:

  • 2 oz. Switch Vodka Light Spirit Drink
  • Splash of Dry Vermouth
  • Olive or lemon peel

Essentially a glorified shot that came dressed up to the party in a bigger glass. Mix them in a martini cup (who would have guessed) and drink moderately.

COSMOPOLITAN

If made correctly, this might actually have some real nutrients:

  • 1.5 oz. Switch Vodka Light Spirit Drink
  • .5 oz. Cointreau
  • .75 oz. natural cranberry juice
  • Lime wedge or lime peel

Add all ingredients to a shaker tin, add ice, and shake. Strain into a chilled coupe glass (no sugar rim to keep it low-calorie) using a Hawthorne strainer and serve.

VODKA GIMLET

It’s not only delightful but also crazy simple to make:

  • 1.5 oz. Switch Vodka Light Spirit Drink
  • .75 oz. simple syrup (or agave)
  • .75 oz. lime juice
  • Lime wedge

Add all ingredients except for the lime wheel to a shaker tin with ice and… shake. Using a Hawthorne strainer… strain into a chilled coupe glass. Finally, garnish with a lime wheel.

THE WISER DECISION

Vodka drinkers can get a bad rap because of how easy it is to pound down one after another of these delicious drinks. They also get deemed too sweet, but we like to think you can have more than one and skip the sugar. With Switch Vodka, the drinks are more flavorful with REAL ingredients (with no added sugars) and easier to enjoy (distilled at 30% alcohol) without the threat of a hangover (or texting an ex-lover).

After adding the drinks above to your arsenal, your friends will be asking you what type of vodka you used. Tell them you made a “Switch” to the good stuff.

Cheers!
